Any wine buff will tell you that a wine tasting event is a great night out. To make the most of it, here are a few tips to help you along the way.
Get the right look
The first thing you should think about before you even leave the house is what to wear. Experienced wine tasters will usually opt for something in a dark colour so that any potential spills won’t show and will avoid anything that has a loose or dangling sleeve. Check out the venue in advance to find out what type of dress code they have, but keep in mind that you will be moving around a lot, so wear something comfortable, especially shoes. An outfit with good pockets will help you to keep your hands free for holding wine glasses. Spend a little bit of time on NA-KD UK for a great choice of suitable and stylish outfits. Why not consider a little black dress? This is a classic look that will look great no matter what time of day or night you attend the wine tasting.
Avoid perfume
It is very important to avoid confusing your sense of smell, so it is recommended that you do not wear perfume. The aroma of a good wine is as important as the way it tastes so adding additional fragrances to the room will not only cloud your own tasting experience but that of others too.
Try to plan ahead
At most wine tastings there will be a large number of wines available, but probably far more than is reasonable for each person to try. It is possible to ask for a list in advance of the event so that you can work out which ones you want to try. You could narrow it down to your favoured type of wine – sparkling, red, white etc. – or just choose the wines of one country.
Have a snack
Before leaving home it is a good idea to have something to eat because even with the relatively small amounts of wines you would taste at this type of event, you could start to feel drunk easily. Some events will offer snacks throughout the event and it is also recommended that you drink some water in between each type of wine to cleanse your palette.
Make a few notes
When you are tasting a variety of wines it can be difficult to remember the names of the ones that you like, so it is recommended that you have a notebook with you. You can jot down the names of the ones that you like so you can easily find them again when shopping in future.
Talk to the winemakers
If you are attending a wine tasting where different wineries are promoting their wines, then it is a good idea to speak directly to the winemakers to find out more about the history of the wine. They’ll be able to answer all of your questions and offer advice, both about the wines they are promoting and others that they have produced.
